Light and Shadow, Understanding Exposure

"Light is what creates a Photographic Image... and shadow is what defines the details in the subject rendering textures - using the the light and the absence of light. It's how we control the depth of each, light and shadow, in our subject... this is the basis of this workshop."

The Nuances of Light

Light is how we see. Learning how to see that light verses the differences of shadow can  become life changing and make or break your images.
The nuances of light and how your camera sees are covered in this workshop. Workshops discuss digital capture, controls, hands on  - in the field,  attention to exposure, contrast, Lightroom and the computer are part of this workshop as well.

Provoking Emotion Using Photography Techniques

Classes are scheduled individually and in groups up to 4.
Individual attendees wanting classes or full days or weekends - gain more individual attention.
If you are wanting to combine several areas of photography study as outlined on these pages - we can do that too. Thank you.

Workshops & Classes

Call today Light and Shadow, Exposure - Workshops and Classes

Understanding Natural And Artificial Light, Seeing the Light

A) Natural light and understanding how it effects our images

Attendees should bring to class their camera, laptop and about 25 images for discussion or questions - pertaining to light and shadow, their exposure.
The most popular question is, why don't my images look like how I saw them? Understanding light and exposure has much to do with the answer. This workshop can be intense. Once you understand the fundamentals you will get better images.

B) Processing Your Images

We work on your present workflow now and improve on what you are doing with techniques we use at the studio to make processing easier and faster, most of the time - depending on the image.
Everyone thinks because images are digital they will come out of the camera great... To get images "like you saw them," your images need to be processed. We go over exposure, light and shadow, and then what to do with you images once you have them so prints or digital files look like what you want them to be.

C) What we Will Do...

Prepare to shoot on location with attention to light,  how to see the light when preparing to make an exposure.  We will look at the images created from location, create an approach to style - and work with computers.
RECAP: We will have class, shoot on location, process the images created on location, create an approach to style and work with computers.
